Imagine Central Arkansas Partners

The Sustainable Communities grant Metroplan received from The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires the development of a regional plan that goes beyond transportation and land use planning, to include housing, energy and environmental issues, health, and economic development. Grant activities are required by HUD to be carried out through a Consortium that will be able to provide a greater focus on the non-transportation items of the plan. A work plan is currently being developed that will align RPAC and Consortium activities. In addition, several members of the RPAC will serve on the Consortium: Rodney Larsen of Central Arkansas Planning and Development, Matt Long of Central Arkansas Transit, Shelly Ehenger of the Metropolitan Housing Alliance, and Becky Adams of the Arkansas Department of Health.
Grant funding will be used to develop planning studies in up to five areas of Central Arkansas that can be used to demonstrate how the Livability Principles embraced by HUD can be integrated by design into existing communities. Then funding will be sought to begin implementation of the plans for these areas. The Consortium is responsible for developing the selection criteria and choosing the study locations. Start looking around now for areas in your community you think would benefit from one of these studies because the selection process will begin in the fall.

The Imagine Central Arkansas Partners will work closely with the Regional Planning Advisory Council throughout the development of Imagine Central Arkansas.
